Emily Celebrates Arrival Of First Child

Emily Deschanel was yesterday celebrating the arrival of her first child, the 34 year-old star of crime drama 'Bones' giving birth to a son called Henry.

Deschanel and husband David Hornsby - who plays Matthew Mara in the sitcom 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' - are set to celebrate their one year wedding anniversary tomorrow (25/9) and their newborn comes as a welcome early anniversary present, reports Us Magazine.

A strict vegan, Deschanel - whose also had roles in 'Glory Road' and 'My Sister's Keeper' - didn't stray from her dietary habits throughout the nine months pregnancy, something that she told Ladies Home Journal recently she still had to argue her case for. "I still have to defend myself because people don't understand it," she said, "As a pregnant woman especially, people will say to me, 'You must eat meat and dairy.'"
Emily's younger sister is of course Zooey Deschanel, star of 'Almost Famous,' 'The Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy' and '(500) Days Of Summer,' and she was quick to tweet her discovery that she'd become an Aunt, saying ""I am super excited to be an aunt!" She herself is currently working on an album, a Christmas record set to be released on October 25th.

Bonus Episodes for Bones

Bones‘ unorthodox approach to its seventh season just got even… unorthodoxier.
You’ll recall that Emily Deschanel’s pregnancy already forced the show to scale back its number of episodes to 13, six this fall (beginning Nov. 3) and seven in the spring, with its spinoff, The Finder, bridging the gap in the winter. Well, now comes word that Fox has ordered four additional episodes, possibly to air over the summer or be carried to Season 8 (assuming there is a Season 8).

Executive producer Stephen Nathan acknowledges that “it’s a very odd situation we’re in,” adding that Fox “has scheduled us for 13 episodes, but they want as many episodes as we can produce.”
Whatever happens, the four bonus hours will likely air apart from the original 13. “We’re constructing the season so that the finale is Episode 13,” Nathan says. “And then there will ultimately be four more episodes that we can play with. [Fox] could run them on a different night, they could run them in the summer, or they could hold them for fall.”

Due to the uncertainty surrounding the four extras, they will be written as standalones. “Because the show is centrally episodic, and we know what’s happening with Booth and Brennan, we can do four great episodes that are almost like a mini-season,” Nathan explains. “So we can do a four-episode mini season after the 13-episode regular season.”
“It’s weird, and it’s a challenge,” he concludes. “But we’ll do it.”

Emily on Fit Pregnancy Magazine Cover

Bones star Emily Deschanel is Fit Pregnancy's newest cover girl, where she talks about her vegan diet, pregnancy cravings and being a "total hippie".

The 35-year-old is a committed vegan and shares that keeping up such a strict diet is surprisingly not difficult even though she's pregnant.
"I don't think it's any more challenging for me than for anyone else," she says. "The real challenge for a vegan is getting vitamin B12 and omega-3s, but you can get those in a vegetarian supplement. The funny thing is, I love kale and always used to put it in my breakfast shakes, but for some reason I can't stand it right now."

But one thing she can't get enough of? Lemonade.
"I want it all the time," she confesses. "But I also crave chocolate all the time, and I try to ignore that."
And when it comes to breastfeeding, Deschanel says she will "absolutely" do it for a year, and maybe longer.
"I'm a total hippie, so we will co-sleep and breastfeed," she says adamantly. "It's cheap and much better for the environment, and you don't have to lug all that stuff around. I'm not saying it's for everyone, but I'm determined, even if it's hard at first."
As for her advice for other first-time mothers out there, she keeps it simple.
"Trust your instincts. I love that."

So Bones cast its villain. What else can you tell me about him? — Kevin

 ADAM:
As you might imagine, Booth isn't Christopher Pellant's biggest fan. (Lest we forget, his hacking of the Department of Defense's website put soldiers in danger.) But even though he's a nuisance (not to mention potentially deadly), Pellant believes his actions bring awareness to weaknesses in our government's security. So that totally makes murder OK, right?

David crosses over to The Finder

David Boreanaz is is putting his director’s hat back on — but it won’t be the Bones cameras he’ll be stepping behind. The actor has signed on to direct an episode of The Finder, the Bones spinoff that will launch at midseason while the mothership goes on a break to accommodate star Emily Deschanel’s pregnancy.
“David’s directing one of our episodes,” says Geoff Stults, The Finder‘s titular crime solver.

Not only that, but Boreanaz — a four-time helmer on Bones — is also expected to pay an on screen visit as Booth. ”It’s going to happen, for sure,” maintains Stults of the possibility of Bones actors crossing over. “We’re not exactly sure who and when, but it’s happening. … David’s going to be there. I think honestly the only one that’s for sure not is Emily because of her pregnancy.”

And while there’s been “a little talk about T.J. [Thyne]” journeying to Florida, Stults would personally like to see Hodgins’ other half make the trek. ”I say every day that I want Michaela [Conlin] to come on over because she’s the only girl in Hollywood who’s my height,” says the six-foot, three-inch actor with a laugh. “And she’s a friend of mine.”

Ask Matt - September 12th 2011

Question: Is it possible that those who found the season finale of Bones a sham is because one episode has Bones on the bed being comforted by Booth and the next Bones tells Booth she is pregnant and he is the father? It seems to me that people fail to remember that episodes are not day-to-day events but have time frames that could span a week or months. If one kept close watch, the clues were there. So please, Matt, tell Hart Hanson that even though most fans wanted an obvious romance with some bed time, it was done well and we are looking forward to a great new season. My question is this: How much attention do producers give to the expectations of loyal fans such as myself and thousands of others who wanted Bones and Booth together? Also: I have always wondered what does the term spoilers really mean. And I saw a picture of Bones and Booth with them holding a baby and it said it's a girl! Is that true! — Anne

Matt Roush: Consider Hart Hanson told. It's not like he hasn't heard it all. I'm not particularly keen on stoking this controversy again — they've established the relationship, do we really need to see the deed? — but I will say that producers of shows like Bones tend to always be aware of fan reaction. Hanson is a very active, and reactive, tweeter, for what that's worth. But it's their show to develop as they please, and to tell their stories on their own timetable with their own priorities, and that's the way it should be. I'd be as upset thinking fans were calling the creative shots as if network and studio executives were meddling more than they should.
